Fashion Tips From NIKKI SIXX

June 29, 2009

U.K.'s The Independent recently conducted an interview with MÖTLEY CRÜE bassist Nikki Sixx. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

The Independent: What are you wearing right now?

Sixx: I've got on a black suede jacket and a white T-shirt, some black jeans which I customized and black leather Chuck Taylor high-tops by Converse. It's pretty much my uniform, and works for whatever I'm doing every day.

The Independent: What can't you live without?

Sixx: Really, I love Starbucks. Maybe that's a bit sad. But I definitely need my caffeine. It's what gets me out of bed in the morning. That, and sex.

The Independent: What's in your wardrobe?

Sixx: You might be surprised, but no leather pants. Actually, I don't own a single pair. I have tons of Chuck Taylors though in black and brown leather, and about 1000 ripped T-shirts, worn and torn just the way I like them. I have about 20 of the best jackets from Royal Underground, too – I'm addicted to our jackets, to be honest with you.

The Independent: If you could live in any decade, style-wise, which would it be?

Sixx: 1970s, hands down – they rocked back then. And they didn't care. They had their shirts off a lot of the time, that's a look that I've experimented with a lot in the past. I love all those classic rockers and the vibe that was around back then – it was such a cool era.

The Independent: How often do you look in the mirror?

Sixx: I try not to. I'm not bothered by my appearance.

The Independent: Any fashion confessions to share with us?

Sixx: Apart from taking my shirt off and wearing ripped jeans? That I don't try and I don't care — style comes from the inside, you can't just put it on in the morning. I can't stand people who try too hard.

The Independent: What's your secret style tip?

Sixx: Don't try to be in, that's the quickest way to be out. Stick to what you know, and don't wear stuff just because you think you should.
